A programmable digital “ledger” of economic transactions. Originally conceived for use with the digital currency known as bitcoin, blockchain is now being applied more widely. The blockchain ledger consists of records, or blocks, that are linked together and secured using cryptography. Those blocks are considered to be permanent and incorruptible.
