Cloudera Looks to Channel to Grow Data Platform
Vendor continues to evolve beyond its Hadoop roots
Cloudera, at one point a key player in commercializing the Hadoop open-source Big Data technology, is enlisting the channel to help the company get its new cloud-based data management platform into the market.
The Lowdown: The company this month launched Cloudera Connect, a partner program designed to accelerate enterprise adoption of the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) and to enable the channel to build solutions on top of the offering.
The Details: The new channel program is aimed at a range of partners, including systems integrators, consultants, MSPs, ISVs, and cloud and hardware partners. It includes:
>Business models to enable partners to better support multicloud and hybrid cloud deployments.
>Market development funds (MDFs) based on co-selling and reselling opportunities.
>Solution competencies that address specific use cases for enterprises and industries.
>Pre-sales and sales resources, such as tools for demos and regional workshops
>Technology certifications that will support partner products that integrate with CDP.
>A new partner portal with easier navigation capabilities and a personalized experience.
The Impact: The new program will help Cloudera’s partners evolve with the company away from Hadoop to tackle the challenge of management data in a Big Data world. The company launched CDP in September to offer enterprises an open data Analytics-as-a-Service platform for both cloud and on-premises environments. Earlier in November, Cloudera made the platform available on Microsoft’s Azure public cloud.
Background: The market for Hadoop, once a key technology for managing data at a time when the amount of data was beginning to skyrocket, has shrunk in recent years as cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services, Azure, and Google Cloud have built services for analyzing and managing data. Cloudera in January swallowed rival Hortonworks in a $5.2 billion merger, and this year Hewlett Packard Enterprise bought another top commercial Hadoop vendor, MapR.
The Buzz: “In a recent Harvard Business Review Analytic Services survey, 69% of respondents said their organization needs a comprehensive data strategy to meet its strategic goals over the next three years, but only 35% said their organization’s analytics and data management capabilities are on course to meet those goals,” said Scott Andress, vice president of global channels and alliances at Cloudera. “This represents a golden opportunity for our partners. Cloudera Connect enables partners to accelerate their customers’ enterprise data strategies, with multiple pathways including on-premise, hybrid, and multi-cloud deployments.”
“Our Atos Codex Datalake Engine, built on the Cloudera platform, enables digital transformation by providing a robust architecture for analytics, enterprise Artificial Intelligence, as well as smart and interconnected objects,” said Emmanuel Le Roux, senior vice presidents of Big Data platforms at Atos. “With this latest announcement, Cloudera Connect now accommodates the diverse journeys that our clients will take as they step onto the digital transformation path, build their data strategies, and move more workloads to the cloud.”
“Cloudera Connect makes it easy to do business with Cloudera,” Cazena CEO Prat Moghe said. “The company has invested in a program that fits industry realities with both cloud and on-premises business models and meets partner needs for flexibility, skills building, and differentiation.”
