Forescout Integrates With Microsoft Intune for Device Security
Organizations get more visibility into their networks
Security vendor Forescout is working with Microsoft to enhance the protection of endpoints at a time when the proliferation of connected devices is expanding the attack surfaces of enterprises.
The Lowdown: Forescout is extending its partnership with Microsoft by integrating its security platform with Microsoft’s Intune, the software giant’s unified endpoint management solution that gives enterprises a single tool for managing their Windows, Android, iOS, and MacOS devices and protecting the data they contain.
The Details: At a time when more devices are connecting to corporate networks, enterprises need greater visibility into not only what devices are in their virtual and physical environments but who they belong to and what they’re doing while on the network.
Forescout’s eyeExtend for Microsoft Intune enhances the ability to onboard and enroll mobile devices by detecting devices on the network that had not been seen by Intune. The Forescout technology continuously discovers, classifies, and assesses devices as they connect to the network and can do all that without having to use agents or interrupt business operations.
The integration of the Forescout technology with Intune not only gives organizations more visibility into the devices connecting into the network – reducing risk and ensuring compliance – but also improves the efficiency and reduces the costs of security operations through workflow orchestration and automated response to and remediation of issues.
In addition, the security vendor is joining Microsoft’s Intelligent Security Association, a collaborative effort designed to help companies defend themselves against the myriad threats they face. The group includes almost three-dozen cybersecurity vendors covering everything from identity and access management (IAM) to information and threat protection.
The Impact: In this era of the Internet of Things, the cloud, the edge, the proliferation of connected mobile devices, and increasingly sophisticated cyberthreats, enterprises need all the help they can get in detecting what devices are connecting to their networks, what they have access to, and what they’re doing. As the adage goes, you can’t protect what you can’t see.
Background: The integration with Intune extends the work Forescout already has been doing with Microsoft. Forescout also has integrated its platform with Azure to drive visibility into the public cloud and give customers a single place for visibility into clouds, campuses, networks, and data centers and, with System Center Configuration Manager, discover unregistered devices and automate workflows for the Microsoft solution.
The Buzz: “Nearly every employee today is using corporate or personal devices in the workplace, and thus the management of device hygiene and compliance is crucial,” said Pedro Abreu, chief product and strategy officer at Forescout. “Our expanded work with Microsoft empowers our joint customers to embrace the emerging cloud- and mobile-first world by addressing the complicated security and compliance challenges through device visibility and control.”
“We’re in an era in which mobility is the new normal – people expect to have the ability to work where, when, and how they choose, using the devices they love and the apps they’re familiar with,” said Ryan McGee, director of security product marketing at Microsoft. “Working with Forescout, we’re helping businesses manage their security risk with device visibility and control.”
