Big Blue, technology distributor hope to soar high with new IoT offerings

IBM and Arrow have unveiled a new Internet of Things portfolio for airport facilities management that aims to make travelers’ experience on the ground more efficient and pleasant.
The Lowdown: The new Smart Airport Asset Management Solution, based on Arrow designs and IBM IoT and software management solutions, aims to improve the operational efficiency and maintenance of airport escalators, moving sidewalks, baggage handling systems, and other automated resources. The goal is to improve traveler experiences by minimizing downtime and disruptions.
The Details: Smart Airport leverages software, cloud, and artificial intelligence resources, including IBM Watson IoT Platform and IBM Maximo Enterprise Asset Management; sensors and IoT devices supplied by Arrow; and third-party airport infrastructure and control systems. The offering will collect operational and maintenance data from connected systems to better schedule maintenance and identify operational problems before they impact travelers.
The Buzz: “Harnessing data and analytics, this end-to-end IoT solution enables airports to improve the performance of key assets that directly impact customer experience,” said Adriana Robinson, vice president of IBM Watson IoT. “This will allow maintenance teams to predict airport facility equipment failure and create proactive maintenance workflows.”
