PC Pitstop, the maker of endpoint security software PC Matic from the homespun television commercials, is looking to expand its workforce in South Dakota, where its founder, Rob Cheng, once worked as an executive at Gateway.
The Lowdown: The security software vendor based in Sioux City, Iowa, is looking to expand into nearby Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where it will develop a field sales organization to support its direct and channel operations.
The Details: According to the Argus Leader newspaper, CEO and founder Cheng appreciates the talent and work ethic of the people in Sioux Falls. Also, he has history in the region, as he once served as an executive at Gateway, the defunct PC manufacturer that was once headquartered there.
The Impact: PC Pitstop is still a peripheral player in the security software market. While Cheng and team built the business on television advertising and direct sales to consumers, the fastest-growing part of the business is B2B sales through resellers and managed service providers. The expansion via a field sales hub in Sioux Falls could signal that the company plans to dial up its channel sales efforts.
The Buzz: “Because of our connections to Gateway and because our CEO likes the culture and work ethic of the people who built Gateway into [what] it was, if we can leverage that into what we’re doing, he sees that as a big advantage,” said Corey Munson, vice president of global sales and marketing at PC Pitstop.
