Microsoft already testing Windows 2020 flagship operating system to shake out new, undefined features

The next version of Windows 10, code named 19H1, is due in April. Microsoft, though, is already launching into testing of 20H1, unofficially known as Windows 2020. What’s unusual about 20H1 is that Microsoft’s initiating testing before it even starts the review of the next interim release for the second half of 2019.
The Lowdown: Microsoft isn’t saying what features and changes will come with Windows 20H1. According to numerous media reports, the accelerated testing is needed for new, advanced features in the operating system that take more time to review and adjust.
The Details: The sooner-than-expected testing of Windows 20H1 could indicate major changes for the operating system. Microsoft is already set to shake up Windows with the 19H1 release, which includes the separation of the AI-assistant Cortana from Windows search, a new embedded Office App, and Kaomoji support.
The Impact: Early beta testers started receiving Windows 20H1 builds this week for testing and reviews. Further insights into design, features, and performance will likely start filtering out of the testing ring.
Background: The Windows development community is anticipating the inclusion of open-source capabilities and Microsoft shifting to a pure subscription model sometime after 2020. Microsoft will end mainstream support for Windows 10 in 2020 and extended support ends in 2025.
